A few days ago I received a thick envelope from the TeX Users Group. Inside I found a copy of the 2009 TeX Calendar:

For every month the calendar shows different examples of what you can do using TeX. The reason I received a hard copy of the calendar was that I contributed a FFT signal flow example for the month of May:

To my pleasant surprise I found two other examples created using TikZ. Tomasz M. Trzeciak’s stereographic map projection illustration

and Till Tantau’s example from the “A picture from Karl’s students” tutorial:

In the calendar you can also find important dates (did you know that Donald E. Knuth was born on January 10, 1938?) and various TeX-related events.

Thank you Robin Laakso (TUG Executive Director) for sending me a hard copy! According to Robin, TUG have made about 100 copies of the calendar and plan to give them away on the Joint Mathematics Meeting. They also plan to post it online later.

I received my copy of the calendar a few days ago. I think it's a really nice way to promote TeX and it sure feels very exciting for me to see my example among such a distiguished company.

BTW, my name is Tomasz (or Tomek) without 'h' after 'T'.

@Tomek. Thanks for pointing out the spelling error. I have corrected the spelling now.

Receiving the calendar was indeed fun. I'll find a nice place for it in my office.

How can I get a copy of TeX Calendar 2009?

  • #4 Kjell Magne Fauske, March 26, 2009 at 8:41 a.m.

@Paco You could try contacting TUG and ask for a copy.

    Do they really offer one?

  • #7 Kjell Magne Fauske, April 2, 2009 at 8:41 p.m.

I don't know if they have any calendars left Tadek.

  • #8 Tadek, April 4, 2009 at 9:27 p.m.

Don't you think it could be a good way of promotion. Some people would like to have one and subsidize the project.

  • #9 Kjell Magne Fauske, April 8, 2009 at 12:10 p.m.

@Tadek A calendar is indeed a good way of promoting TeX. Not sure if enough people are willing to pay for it to make it profitable though. Maybe they could send every TUG member a calendar?

  • #10 Tadek, April 8, 2009 at 7:14 p.m.

In fact everybody can do it himself as explained in pgf manual. The above gift is the special recognition of author's graphics.

@Tadek: Do you know if the source code for the calendar is available? Despite my enthusiasm for tikz/pgf I don't think I'll muster the patience to do the whole thing from scratch...

I would look awesome in my office.

  • #12 TeXob, August 23, 2009 at 6:48 p.m.

that's IT would look awesome, obviously :-S

  • #13 Kjell Magne Fauske, August 23, 2009 at 7:57 p.m.

@TeXob: For the source code or a PDF I recommend contacting TUG.

Did someone manage to get the source code or a PDF? I wrote to TUG but with no success so far :(

There was no chance to buy TEX calendar 2009. Is there any for the next year?
